Vivacious velvet

November 9, 2017

Sometimes when I see a trend pop up all over the place, I get nervous to go all out.

For instance, Velvet.

It’s such a rich material. It’s stunning. And can be showstopping. But it can be overwhelming

I see full dresses in the material and I’m never sure if I want to wear a whole outfit in velvet.

On top of that I never know if I want to wear a whole outfit that is over the top trendy just because it’s trendy. I like to break it up a little.

So if you aren’t sure how to and velvet to your outfit, if you don’t really like to be over the top trendy, but like the look of the material, here are a couple ways to make it happen.

First, velvet tops are easy to find. I bought this one last year at the end of the winter season so I’ve been dying to wear the heavy material ever since.

An even simpler and more subtle way to incorporate velvet into your life is a cutie scrunchie or hair accessory. Believe it or not, the one below came from Claire’s. So not only am I taking it back with velvet, I’m tripling up on my 90s nostalgia with the scrunchie and the place I bought. I don’t think I made a trip to the mall without stopping at Claire’s growing up.

My last two options are two of my favorite pieces I’ve purchased in a while.

These Free People velvet socks are so fucking cozy it’s insane. My feet (foot?) have never felt so cared for.

And lastly, are these velvet sneakers I adore. I am such a fan of neutrals so it was outside of my comfort zone to buy these slate blue crushed velvet shoes from Target, but I’ve warn them with so many outfits, I’ve decided slate blue is basically a neutral.

What are your favorite ways to wear this trend?
