There are a few things I don't think I will ever tire of. They are such staples in my everyday life that even if they go out of style, I'm not going to change my ways.
I mean, I'd like to think these are so simple and classic, they won't go out of style anyways! Haha
1. Top knots
Not that I think this trend will ever die, I have seen a few of those "what trends must die in 2017 (or insert any year)" and top knots have been included. And I'm over here like, pssshhhhh yeah freakin' right! You cannot even try to take this quick lil 'do away from me. Never! If I could live my life with one hairstyle forever, it'd be the top knot. It's such a versatile look. It doesn't matter if it's a 10 second process, or it it takes me 30 minutes and 8,345 discreetly placed bobby pins. I'm wearing it for erry occasion!
2. Camel colored flats
I have bought the same pair of Cognac-colored flats from Payless for a few years now. I buy a new pair every year because I wear them so often, they get totally destroyed. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now that Payless is going out of business. It's a bit devastating for me. That is one of my go to places to buy shoes because they are relatively affordable and they have the best basic flats ever. But my fave are the camel colored ones. I feel like camel brown is one of the most versatile neutrals. Not only do I think it pairs the best with other colors, I also think it pairs the best with other neutrals as well I love a good black and navy combo as much as the next gal, but there is nothing sleeker to me than mixing camel brown and blacks. And for me, while I love an all black outfit, sometimes I think navy looks even classier. So when you add in a camel brown pair of flats, it dresses it just a tad to make it perfect for any occasion.
3. Black and white striped tee
I have paired a black and white striped tee with just about errthang! Leggings, and a jean shirt, a jean jacket and colored jeggings, skirts, cardigans, plaid shirts, plaid scarves. I've tied them in a knot and wore it over a LBD once for a 90s chic look I was pretty fond of. I own like 5 different styles of black and white striped tees. There are some with more white than black, more black than white, skinny lines, wide lines, v necks, long sleeve, short sleeve...I love them. It's my go to for Saturday morning or even on a day when I feel as though I have nothing to wear in the sea of my never-ending wardrobe.
4. Jean jacket
I am short so it took me years to find a jean jacket that didn't hit me too low or too high (Remember in the really early 00s when cropped jackets were all the rage?! Yeah, they were never cropped on me.) Anyways, about 5 or 6 years ago I found a jean jacket at Lane Bryant. It was not too dark and it wasn't light wash. It had some fading in all the right spots and I begged my mom to buy it for me. I was in college and broke as a joke so there was no way I wound have been able to afford it by the time it sold out. She was a little reluctant because she didn't think I needed it yet. It was summer and she wasn't sure I'd get much use out of it anyways. That was probably the only time my mom was ever truly wrong. I have worn the shit out of that jacket! Like my black and white tee, I wear my jean jacket with and for everything! I use it to dress down a fancier outfit and I use it to dress up a super casual outfit. Also, it seems to be a lighter material, so I don't have to stop wearing it in the summer when it gets hot (unless I know I'll be outside all day of course).
Not to get into the leggings are/aren't pants argument or anything, but....leggings are pants! At least mine are. I only buy leggings that aren't see through. If they are solid black, they are most likely athletic leggings so they are think enough that you can't see anything when I bend over. My favorite are the Go-Dry High Rise Compression Leggings from Old Navy! I have about 5 pairs that I rotate into my wardrobe more times than I should admit to. I could live in them. I am never more comfortable than when I am wearing those leggings because I know I'm not showing anyone anything I'm not comfortable with showing. I know they can be worn with regular t-shirts and with nicer tops because they aren't going to fade in the wash because the Go-Dry material is a little better quality. Also, because of my prosthetic leg, I have an issue with my pants getting holes in the knees rather quickly and these leggings held together a hell of a lot longer than almost all my other pants have, which is an extra little treat for me!
If you have never gotten yourself a pair of jeggings from Torrid, I'm gunna need you to stop right here and go there now! Since I first started wearing them a few years ago, I almost never buy jeans from another store. They are so snug in all the right places and nice and stretchy around the waist. They are so comfortable. They come in a million colors. The come in Tall, Regular, Short and Extra Short. For someone who is barely 5 ft, I was on cloud 9 when they introduced the Extra Short size! I can almost always go down one or sometimes two size! Ugh...I could go on and on! I could hush for days about these pants. Just go buy some. I promise you won't be disappointed.
7. Hipster panties
I. Could. Give. Two. Fucks. About. The. V. P. L! If you don't like looking at my panty lines...Don't . Look. At. My. Ass! I will not forgo comfort and wear a thong just to make my ass look "more appealing." That's all.
8. Nude nails
Is it weird that I feel really exposed when my nails aren't painted a nude color?! Last week I did something crazy. I painted my nails an orange-ish/corally color and added some gold glitter. It looked good and orange is pretty hot right now, but I felt like everyone was looking at my nails. I felt like they could be seen from 723 miles away and it was nerve-wracking. This weekend I changed the color to Essie's Hi Maintenance and I instantly felt complete. It felt like my outfit was fully put together. Like I was home again. And it's so weird to feel like that just because of a nail color, but there isn't a better way to describe how much better I felt. I love to change my nails and I experiment with colors and designs all the time, but nude nails are my staple color and I won't give it up.
